Many believe that the human body hasn’t adapted to breaking down modern day grains and processed foods, mainly gluten. This can cause many issues for people with celiac disease, gluten intolerance and gluten allergies too. There are many benefits to eating a gluten free diet such as: easing digestive issues, reduce bloating, boost energy levels and can also aid inn weight loss! There has also been speculation that the diet can improve cardiovascular health
Trying to pick foods which you know are 100% gluten free and are not over processed can be hard especially when they can lack on both flavour and palatability.

Foods to avoid

The key foods that need to be avoided are; wheat, barley, triticale, rye, and malt. To stay healthy and avoid symptoms, a person with a gluten intolerance needs to avoid all foods that contain gluten, even in the smallest amounts.
Foods that contain gluten include:
  • breads
  • beer
  • some candies
  • many desserts
  • cereals

Other items can contain hidden gluten, so be sure to read the label on products you aren’t 100% certain on to make sure and avoid any possible contamination. If a label reads that there is a possibility of cross contamination this means there is a risk that the same machinery or equipment used to make the product has been in contact with gluten, the same goes for eating out at restaurants.
